Sustainable Leadership in Unstable Times

Close-up of a wooden block tower with several pieces removed, appearing unstable against a blue background.

How to lead sustainably when the world feels unstable—without burning out yourself or your people.

A 90-minute interactive workshop

For nonprofit leaders especially, the weight of caring for staff, communities, and missions amid ongoing uncertainty can make sustainable leadership feel not just difficult—but impossible. Many leaders are navigating constant crisis, blurred boundaries, and expectations to “do more with less,” often at the expense of their own well-being.

This 90-minute, sliding-scale workshop builds on the popular Leadership Without Burnout webinar and offers a deeper, more hands-on experience for both new participants and those ready to go further. Rather than pushing harder or normalizing exhaustion, this session invites a different approach: resetting leadership norms around sustainability, clarity, and care.

Together, we’ll explore how burnout shows up at the leadership level—not as a personal failure, but as a signal that our systems, pacing, and assumptions need to change. Through a mix of thought leadership, guided reflection, and small-group breakout scenarios, participants will examine real leadership challenges and practice applying sustainable alternatives in real time.

What we’ll explore

  • How dominant leadership norms (urgency, over-functioning, self-sacrifice) fuel burnout

  • Ways to identify personal and organizational energy drains—and what actually replenishes them

  • Concrete pacing and boundary-setting practices leaders can implement immediately

  • How to lead with consistency and presence, even in unstable and high-pressure contexts

  • How small, intentional resets can create lasting shifts in leadership culture

What you’ll leave with

This workshop is designed to be practical and actionable. Participants will leave with:

  • A personalized Sustainable Leadership Reset Plan for 2026

  • Tangible tools and reflection prompts to revisit beyond the session

  • Concrete boundary or pacing shifts tailored to their leadership role

  • Insights from peer dialogue and collective problem-solving

  • Greater clarity about how to lead effectively without burning out

Who this is for

This workshop is for nonprofit leaders, managers, and practitioners—whether or not you supervise others—who are ready to lead with integrity, clarity, and care in uncertain times. It’s especially supportive for those feeling stretched thin, questioning unsustainable norms, or seeking a more humane way to lead.

Come as you are. Leave with practical tools, renewed perspective, and a leadership approach grounded in sustainability.
