Dismantling Your Own Bias: The Necessary Steps to Racial Equity

This is a 2-week class to learn how to recognize and dismantle your own biases to take the first few steps toward racial equity.

Deep, consistent self-reflection is one of the most important steps you can take to dismantle oppression and move towards racial equity. *This is a two-part class that meets every Thursday for 2 weeks*:

  • Thursday, September 14, 2023 (10:30am - 1:30 pm PT/1:30pm - 4:30pm ET)

  • Thursday, September 21, 2023 (10:30am - 1:30 pm PT/1:30pm - 4:30pm ET)

Race, equity, and inclusion work trigger strong emotions and responses of defensiveness and resistance. Understanding that change is difficult, this class is a brave healing space where we can unpack our own biases, deal with fragility, address trauma, and understand how we can show up in solidarity with other marginalized communities.

By the conclusion of this class, you'll:

1. Be able to acknowledge your own biases without shame or judgment

2. Recognize what your implicit biases are rooted in and track patterns so that we can interrupt them when those biases show up

3. Assess where you are on the racial justice journey towards dismantling your own biases and what you need to do to move towards true allyship and co-conspiratorship

4. Determine how your own biases may impact other groups and individuals from different background.

5. Create an individual action plan containing your next steps toward racial equity

As a group, you'll share, learn from one another, and support each other as you go through the course. Slides will be shared with all participants.
